Some say it never existed in the first place – nothing more than a legend. But thousands of others think Captain Kidd’s treasure (the Scottish pirate) could be there. People worldwide have travelled to Oak Island in Nova Scotia, hoping to find the fabled treasure trove. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, John Wayne and others made the trek in their day to search for the treasure. At least six lives have been lost over the past 200 years looking for the elusive treasure.

Lifelong Search Ends – Treasure Never Found

But you’re a Christian, right? Here’s news that should give you a real boost – something to make your day, your week, your year – your life!

Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3

We don’t have to speculate and spend time trying to figure out where the true treasure is – we’re given the exact location of the treasure. Christ! So it’s a sure-find once I get there. How much time and effort am I expending to dig for this treasure?

The Apostle Paul was combatting false teaching carried on the wings of high-falutin words. As prevalent then as it is now, there were those who promised a deeper mystical understanding, a greater enlightenment, and a rich, mind-expanding experience available to those who were willing to move beyond merely Christ.

Paul tells the believers that there is nothing worth having that is not found in Christ alone. He tells them they…

“may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. Colossians 2:2-4 NIV

The more you study and enjoy Christ in the Scriptures, the richer your find will be.

Most treasure seekers spend the bulk of their time just trying to locate the treasure, and then, when they do, the treasure is often disappointingly small and can be exhausted quickly. God has kindly told us the exact location of the treasure of infinite value.

We don’t have to waste precious time trying to find the gold. We know where it is – it’s just a matter of mining it! The supply is inexhaustible and available to all. Why, then, have I not been mining for this gold lately? Is it because I treasure something else in my life?

Matthew 6:21 says: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

If Christ is my treasure, then He will have my heart. He will have my time. He will dominate my thoughts. He will have first dibs on my pay cheque. If He doesn’t – I must have another treasure. Don’t miss the connection between your treasure and your heart.

Captain Kidd’s elusive treasure may be more fable than fact. If the ancient pirate had treasures, he may not have buried them on Oak Island. The location may be unknown. But dear child of God, the location of the richest treasures and most valuable gold ever to be mined is known to you. Once again, here are the GPS coordinates:

Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3

Get serious about mining the gold. Dig into your Bible and find more and more of Christ. Can you imagine what it would be like if we all doubled our treasure-seeking and mining efforts? If each Christian spent twice as much time and energy mining for Christ in our Bibles – the change would be nothing less than transformational and radical – privately and publicly.

The more gold treasures of this kind we find, the more our lifestyles will be changed for God’s glory.
