Monday Meditations
The ultimate goal of redemption is to make us worshipers. The Lord Jesus Christ said: “…True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” (John 4:23 ESV
Worship, while difficult to define, is the result of being occupied with Christ – His person and work.
This weekly meditation is prepared by Dr. Sandy Higgins. Its purpose is to give believers truth to think about and develop in their own minds and hearts throughout the week. Ultimately, as the week progresses, daily worship will result in hearts full of adoration for the Lord Jesus on the Lord’s Day (Sunday) as believers gather to remember Him.
Dr. A.J. Higgins is a former Editor of the Christian magazine, Truth and Tidings and is well known in many parts of the world for his relevant and clear Bible teaching. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Ruth.
The Suffering Servant of Jehovah (1)
Isaiah 53 is unique. It is, in effect, the national anthem for a nation that was written millennia before it will ever be sung. It embodies the confession of a nation that will be “born in a day” when they look on the One they have pierced, owning Him as their Messiah, King, and Saviour.
The Sensitive Christ
When you read these words of Christ in John 13, “When Jesus had thus said, He was troubled in spirit and testified, and said, “… one of you shall betray Me,” ponder the most poignant reason for His troubled spirit.
Into the Sea
While it was a miracle of divine power that laid the Egyptian army low, it is a miracle of divine grace that cast our sins “into the depths of the sea.”
It is Finished
All other memorable speeches and words are eclipsed by the one word that echoed through the courts of heaven that has had eternal consequences — “Finished.” It was only one word in the original language, one word that has secured for God immeasurable glory and honour, and has reaped for us blessing beyond description.
Falling into the Ground and Being Lifted up
In John 12, the Lord Jesus describes His approaching death as a corn of wheat falling into the ground and dying, revealing both the humility of His sacrifice and the greatness of His love. This meditation considers why Christ chose the Cross and how His death became the means of bringing forth abundant spiritual fruit.
A God Who Groans
It was as God that Jesus stood at the tomb of Lazarus, groaning within Himself and then giving vent to tears of grief and sorrow. Your God, and mine, is a God Who weeps and groans over the sorrows of others.
Reversal
The charge of the Jews was the exact opposite of the truth. He was not a man making Himself out to be God. He was, in truth, God manifest in flesh.
A New Reason or an Old One?
John 10:17 reveals the eternal love between the Father and the Son in light of Calvary. Explore how Christ’s willing sacrifice, resurrection power, and devotion to His Father were not a new reason for divine love, but the eternal expression of all that He is.
A Cry of Confidence and Meekness
KJV Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit: and having said thus, He gave up the ghost." NASB Luke 23:46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT."...
A Cry of Completion and Majesty
KJV John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost." NASB John 19:30 Therefore, when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up...
