“Definitely, we should make every effort to get Josh there. We aren’t sure whether he has Cone-Rod Dystrophy or Stargardt’s Disease but one thing is for sure, his eyes have deteriorated to the point where he’s practically blind. I call it a tragedy. If that incredible Physician is in our vicinity this week, then we absolutely must get Josh an appointment.”

The Smiths weren’t the only ones who had their thinking hats on when they heard about the famous Physician holding office hours in town – so to speak. The Ronaldos had a young neighbour just across the street from them whose condition was deteriorating.

“Just three years ago it looked like he would make it big time in soccer but today he can barely walk; our entire neighbourhood is rooting for Cristiano II. I will do whatever it takes to make sure young Chris gets an appointment. He’s constantly on my heart!”

Too many to mention for sure – but there was also Julia, Ruth, Ben, Brent and Phyllis – all of them in our town. We all teamed up and worked hard to ensure all of them had an appointment with the amazing Physician. We had heard numerous reports in recent months that there wasn’t one case ever brought to the Physician He wasn’t able to diagnose and cure on the first visit. And sure enough – we weren’t disappointed!

They were all wonderfully cured. The creative writing ends here and now consider the factual account in the Gospel of Matthew:

Jesus…. went up on the mountain and sat down there. (Office hours, open for business) And great crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at His feet, and He healed them, so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel. Matthew 15:29-31

If some world-famous physician came to your town in 2022 with an incredible record of successfully treating difficult diseases, you would feverishly work to ensure everyone with an incurable condition had an appointment. We would lobby, make phone calls, get petitions signed, put out the dollars and take a day off work to do our part in making sure a Julia or a Michael got an appointment with Dr. Incredible.

Short Video in Idioms Series – Life Lessons

Do I feel the same urgency and intensity about those I know who have the disease of sin?  The people above had conditions that affected them in this life only. But I know people who have a disease that not only causes suffering in time but unbearable and unending torment in eternity. What efforts am I making to bring them to Jesus and to make sure they get to the feet of the Great Physician? He is the only One who can cure them; in fact, He Himself is the cure.

“Lord, I don’t want to be irresponsible about this matter. I confess if it were a physical condition and I knew a doctor who had a 100% success rate – I would throw shyness and caution and timidity to the wind. I have personally experienced Your healing power – yes, the miracle of my salvation. Give me a fresh sense of the urgency of bringing perishing sinners to Christ. Give me the burden, wisdom and courage of a soul-winner. I don’t want to hide from others what I know truly works for the eternal ages.”

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ,

Peter Ramsay
