Home Renovations for the Lord

“Dear, I’ve been thinking…”

“That’s a scary thought but do proceed. I am listening.”

“I’ve got a little renovation project on my mind. I think we should knock out that wall, extend the beam and add another room to our house.”

“But dear, there are only two of us and that would be a major expense. Are you thinking straight? Why do we need another room in this house?”

This couple lived in Shunem, a town where Elisha the prophet passed through. She had already invited him over to their place for a meal. It was a privilege to have Elisha in their home. But her hospitality didn’t stop with just providing him with a meal. “Wouldn’t it be a privilege to have our home so arranged that it could be open to God’s man any time he is passing through? He could just stop over and make himself at home in his own little bedroom and study.”

And she said to her husband,

“Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way.

Let us make a small room on the roof with walls

and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp,

so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.”

One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there.

(2Kings 4:9-11)

When you read the full story you will learn how this renovation project became a great blessing to that home. In this very room great sorrow was turned to incredible joy.

What do you have in mind for your dream home? Are you thinking about renovating? Or are you in the market for a new or newer home? Have you thought about what you might need to make your home useable and available for the Lord? Are you thinking more of the resale value than how God might be able to use it?

This couple in Shunem would have missed out big time in life had they never used https://howtohome.com/ to renovate their home for the Lord. Tremendous blessings came their way as a result of that renovation project.

In addition to the real estate agent, the banker, the architect, the contractor and the interior decorator, will you be involving the Lord in your plans for your home?

Here are a few questions to ask: How could our home be used for the Lord? Do we have a place where Christians can come and enjoy our home? Could we keep that university student in our home rather than him paying top prices in a godless campus dorm? Do we have a room where a Bible teacher could stay if he was in town for a few nights? Rather than the young people hanging out in one of their own apartments on a Saturday night – could our home be used as a place for them to crash and chill? Could we have the neighbors into our home for a Gospel-focused Bible study?

Is your home available and useable for the Lord?

Or are you investing in: don’t sit on me furniture; don’t walk on me carpets; don’t scrape me floors; don’t break me dishes; don’t drop me ornaments; don’t soil me table-clothes; don’t use me antiques and of course the just look at me towels.

Are there things or activities in your home that might disappoint Elisha, the man of God? Will your home have a godly atmosphere about it or will the brand-marks of the world be stamped all over it?

“Lord, increase our desire to use our very own homes for the Lord.” The home in Shunem was used for the Lord. The home in Bethany was used for the Lord. Check with both parties today and ask them if they have any regrets about using their home for the Lord.

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ
