“You should see the track of land we got in the deal. It’s one amazing piece of real estate. It’s worth a handsome chunk of change. Our homegrown amateur geologists are also speculating that there may be some precious metals to be mined in one section of our property. We were walking off some of the land this past week and it’s hard to believe that all of this is our inheritance. By the way, what kind of deal did you guys get in the property distribution? Let us know when you are giving tours of your property and real estate holdings.”

“Uhhhh, well – you might be waiting a while. You won’t need a chariot or a tour guide to see our portion. Our portion is actually quite different from all the rest. The Lord is our portion. We didn’t get a big allotment of land or property. We belong to Jehovah and we have the unique privilege of being identified in a very special way as the Lord’s possession. Ours is the high honour of serving Him and being very much a part of the worship activity on behalf of the entire nation of Israel and to be a part of the community wherever we are serving.”

“Well, that’s all fine and dandy, but it’s quite ethereal and nebulous if you ask me. Sounds way too heavenly! Not very tangible or practical. How could you ever get an estimate on your portion and then sell it to someone for profit or use it as collateral? And, do you think your kids will be satisfied with that kind of an inheritance or portion? Like, let’s be real; you live on Planet Earth. Come down out of the clouds!”

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD to stand before the LORD to minister to Him and to bless in His name, to this day. Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers. The LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God said to him. (Deuteronomy 10:8-9)

To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance. The offerings by fire to the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to him. (Joshua 13:14)

In your spiritual condition today, do you think you would have been a disgruntled Levite when the Promised Land was divvied up and parcelled out to the tribes of Israel? Or would your face be beaming as you thought of your distinguished privilege — being claimed by God as a special possession and being set apart by the Lord for worship and service?

You can do your own personal study of tracing the Levites through the Word of God and their unique role. But today, can you see a striking parallel in their role and yours as a believer in Christ?

Unlike your unsaved friends, who only have tangible, temporal and material things to enjoy, you have an eternal inheritance in Christ Jesus. (Read Ephesians 1, Colossians 1, and 1Peter 1) Your deepest blessings are spiritual and eternal in nature!

If only we could comprehend what 1Corinthians 6:19 means – “You are not your own. You were bought with a price.” And what a price it was! Christ paid the price in drops of blood and today God owns me. I belong to Him! How much better could it get and what more could I want?!!

“Lord, I’m sorry for grumbling. I have lost sight of my blessings in Christ. I’m sorry for reasoning like an unconverted and perishing sinner. Thank You today for blessing me richly in Christ Jesus.”

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ,

Peter Ramsay
