Forward to a Friend.

King David Said: “Every Day!”

Welcome to a new day. You probably have some routines you have already done today or intend to do a little later. Routine daily routines. Waking up is one of them. (The day you don’t wake up will cause quite a stir.) We’re creatures of habit. Even though we may fight the tendency towards daily routines, thinking they inhibit creativity and squash spontaneity, we are bound by some fairly regular practices in our lives. And that’s not bad. Unstructured days can often be unfocused days and unfocused days are often unprofitable days. Unprofitable days can be days of deep regret.

Besides waking up, daily grooming and eating, can you identify a few other things you do every day? My phone just told me I checked it 56 times today. The person beside me – 80 times according to phone stats. Most check their emails daily; and FB and other social media. The cat gets fed like clock-work and you have your coffee fixes.  Some of our daily routines have become habits because, quite frankly, we like them and look forward to treating ourselves each day. Then there are other routines that aren’t necessarily enjoyable but definitely vital to our existence every day.

A ‘hit or miss’ approach to academic success produces, at best, mediocrity. An unplanned or inconsistent approach to managing your finances can result in disaster. Unpredictability in job performance results in dismissal. Irregularity in dental checkups results in costly tooth repairs and erratic driving results in flashing lights and fines.

What are your routine ‘every day’ spiritual habits? You go to the fridge or the cupboard every morning for your physical food. What happens if you miss a day of not eating? Weakness! What happens when you miss your spiritual intake for the day? Weakness is the result – leaving you very vulnerable to temptations and the attack of your spiritual enemy.

King David, at one point in his life, wrote these words:

A Praise of David.
I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.
Psalm 145:1-3

If you don’t already have time blocked out in your day for just you and the Lord, you need to come up with a new daily schedule. Either you make your day longer or you cut out something to make room for your private time with the Lord. How can you have a thriving relationship with the Lord if you don’t do your part in maintaining it? What would marriage be like if only one of the two cared?

King David said: “Every day I will bless You.” What did he mean? Simply that he would be in touch daily with his Lord. “Others may not bother but I will.” Every day he would connect with the One he loved. Every day he would salute Him. It was a real relationship and David made sure he communicated with Him every day.

How can there be two way communications between a Christian and the Lord? We talk to Him through prayer. He talks to us through His Word. He listens to us when we pray. We listen to Him when we read our Bibles. Too often we expect Him to listen to us but we fail to listen to Him.

No Christian can thrive without a daily intake of the Word of God and daily communication with the Lord. There are days when we may not feel like reading and praying but do it anyway. Every day! It’s called a good habit! Job, speaking of his love for the Word of God and his respect for God’s commandments said: “I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” Job 23:12.

Remember – it’s one of those everyday things!

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.
Warmly in Christ,
