His Name shall endure forever. Psalm 72:17 KJV

May His Name endure forever. Psalm 72:17 NASB

In Psalm 72 we ascend to the mountain of glory. We are allowed to peer ahead through the ages to catch a glimpse of what the earth will be like, and what life will be like when God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven. Here is what God intended life to be like! Here is how God intended men to actually live. The world will know the beneficent and gracious rule of the King of kings. Look at some of the conditions of that day.

Righteousness and peace will cover the earth. The poor and the needy, the aged and the children will all be treated fairly and righteously. No longer will the oppressor rule. No longer will truth be on the scaffold and wrong on the throne. Time and again in the Psalm there are references to the poor and needy. How different from conditions in our world today. All the efforts to relieve poverty, all the claims of socialism and democracy will be put to shame in contrast to this coming administration. There will be no disenfranchised group in that day. Men will live under the reign of the only righteous King who ever ruled.

Conditions on the earth will be altered. Prosperity – a prosperity not only for the already wealthy but one which will touch every corner of the globe and every home, will be known. Bounty will replace famine; full harvest will replace blight. All will be blessed by His rule.

Kings and nations will come in worship to Israel’s King. All will serve Him. Worship will fill the earth. Consider these scenes of worship:

  • In Leviticus 2:2 there is a handful of worship by the priest;
  • In Psalm 45:1 there is a heart full of worship by the meditator;
  • In John 12:3 there is a house full of worship by Mary;
  • In Psalm 72:15 there is a harvest of worship from the earth;
  • In Revelation 5:8-14 there is a heaven full of worship.

Will your heart and mine be full of worship this Lord’s day?

 Consider:

  1. Contrast how the Lord Jesus was treated and He will treat men as seen in this Psalm.
  2. Contrast what He received at His first advent and what He will receive in a future day. “Daily shall he be praised … all nations shall call Him blessed.”
  3. The pathway to the throne was by way of the tree. Look at ways in this Psalm in which God has compensated His Son for all He passed through at Calvary.
