The moment you turned to the Lord and appreciated that Christ died for all your sins, and you received Him – you were spiritually born into a new family. The family of God.  God became your heavenly FATHER – not just your Creator. Before you were saved – you knew God as the Almighty Creator, and you were one of His creatures in the human family of Adam.

Adam and Eve were the first parents of the entire human family. (Genesis 1-3) But when you placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you were born into the family of God. You are a child, and He is your Father. That’s your new identity.

Here’s a great verse to memorize:

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13

When you received Christ, you spiritually became a new person inside. God used the Apostle Paul to write many things in the New Testament. Paul himself became a new person. He was transformed from a vicious hater of Jesus and persecutor of Christians to a preacher and promoter of Jesus Christ. That’s a 180-degree change!  Paul wrote:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he [she] is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2Corinthians 5:17

You have a new heart with a new life purpose – a heart that now wants to please God because of what Jesus did for you on the Cross. Before God saved us, our hearts beat to please ourselves – not Christ. You are now IN CHRIST.  Notice that phrase again in the verse above. You are a new person. Something new is going on inside you. Perhaps you have noticed.

Yes, every Christian still has struggles. You will have yours too. The old please-me ‘flesh’ – the energy of sin is still inside every Christian, but here’s the difference now: you have a new power living inside you. The Holy Spirit now lives inside you, and He will never leave you. More about Him another time.

Today’s thought is – God sees you as a new person in His Family. Before the moment of your salvation, you were just a sinner in Adam’s family. But as you read this today, God now sees you in Christ, in His Family, and you can never lose that amazingly distinguished status. You are a newborn child in the family of God. A new creation. You are securely in a new spiritual family.

1. Two verses are mentioned above. Look both of them up in your Bible and underline them with a pen or pencil.
2. Write the two verses out. Try to memorize the two short verses. Frequently read the two verses today and get them in your head and heart.
3. Thank your Heavenly Father for giving you Christ and for welcoming you into His family. Tell Him you want to be a child who makes Him happy. Read Romans 8:31-37 with a thankful heart.
4. What changes have you noticed in your thinking and in your desires since God saved you?
