Maybe you read some of the stories in the Bible that display the power of God and sigh: “Yeah, but that was back then. It doesn’t work like that today.” And you are right – sort of. Throughout the long narrative of human history (6000 years or so), God has used different approaches in His dealings with us. He is not a cookie-cutter God who only reveals Himself to us in one way. But who He is and what He can do never changes.

The royal advisors could not believe the King’s request. Let’s face it – it was rather bizarre. It’s one thing to have someone share their twisted dream with you and then ask you to explain its possible meaning – but when a powerful king wakes up from his sleep and knows he had a troubling dream but cannot recall any part of it and then demands his staff to ‘recall the dream’ for him – now that’s impossible!

But the Royal Advisors were under considerable pressure to respond to the King. If they failed, he said he would slice them up and turn their homes into rubble. As politely as one can respond to a king, they replied with exasperation: “What the King asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the King except the gods, and they do not live among men.”

Daniel, the man of God, responded differently. Obviously, he didn’t take the King’s demand lightly. He and his friends prayed in their apartment for wisdom from the Lord to not only be able to tell the King what his forgotten dream was but its meaning as well. And the Lord responded to the young men’s prayer request.

When Daniel appeared before the throne, the King said: “Are you able to tell me what I saw in the dream and interpret it too?” Daniel then responded with this:

No wise men can… but there is a God in Heaven Who …”  Daniel 2:27-28

You can read these verses in their completeness but what word did you insert after the ‘who’ in the verse? “Can!” Although not the exact word, that’s basically what Daniel said to the King. “No man can, but there is, always was and always will be a God in Heaven who can!”

Child of God, don’t underestimate or lose sight of what God can do! What no human can do, the God who created humans and everything else is able to do.

To the perplexed young lady, Mary, the mighty angel Gabriel said: “With God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37. Jesus told the people: “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” Luke 18:27. The Lord Himself asked Abraham and Jeremiah both: “Is there anything too hard, too difficult or too wonderful for Me to do?”

Daniel knew God, and that’s why he had complete confidence in God’s ability. Our greatest and deepest mission in life should be to know God more in all His fullness and greatness. How different our life would be and how different our outlook on life would be. Yes, even with the trial you are presently experiencing.

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ,

Peter Ramsay
