Alone on the Mount of Transfiguration — No one Fit to Stand with Him — His Manhood

Peter, not knowing what else to say, rushed ahead to the Feast of Tabernacles. They were discussing the Passover lamb and the Exodus. Peter was already thinking of the Millennial Kingdom. He thoughtlessly placed Christ on the same level as Moses and Elijah. The former had said, “It is too heavy” (Num 11:14), and that he was unable to bear the burden. The latter had said, “I am no better than my fathers.” In contrast, here was the Perfect Man who alone could say, “It is finished,” and in Whom His Father could proclaim that He found all His delight. Here was a Man Who stood out as fit to reign in that coming Millennial Kingdom, the Last Adam, the Second Man.

Alone at Calvary — No one Able to Stand with Him — His Misery

He was alone at Calvary. Family and friends had forsaken Him. All forsook Him and fled. But in truth, not only was no one there to share His suffering, but no one could. Every man had to face the consequences of his own sin. Only the Sinless Substitute could effectively endure the judgment of God and put sin away.

“It was alone the Saviour died,” we often sing. Yet in it we see the wisdom of God. Had John or Peter, or any other disciple, been crucified alongside of Christ, there would be those who would have claimed that they shared in the work of propitiation. But He alone endured God’s righteous judgment against sin.

Alone Treading the Winepress — No one Needed to Stand with Him — His Might

Isaiah looks to a future day, a day spoken of in Revelation 19 and 20, when the Lord descends to be the Saviour of His people, Israel. Though He comes with the armies of Heaven, this army never enters into battle. He will tread the winepress alone. No one is needed to accompany Him. All the munitions nd armaments of earth are as nothing to Him in His omnipotence. He will deal with the Beast and the gathered armies with simply the breath of His mouth. As the Might Conqueror, He will enter Zion’s gates as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as the Lord God Almighty (Ps 24).

Alone in Glory — No One Worthy to Stand with Him  — His Majesty

In Revelation 5, no one is found worthy to take the book. Amidst this seeming crisis, the Lamb steps forth and is acclaimed worthy to take the book and pen the seals. His worth and work set Him apart from every other being in Heaven and on Earth. He alone is worthy to take the book and open the seals. His right to the Earth is undisputed and unchallenged. He is the only worthy One.

We join with the inhabitants of Heaven as we proclaimed, “Thou art worthy to take the book …” He is the unique, unrivalled Son in all his majesty.
