Unto you therefore, which believe He is precious. 1 Peter 2:7 KJV

This precious value, then, is for you who believe. 1 Peter 2:7 NASB

Why is He precious?

In Proverbs, Solomon tells us that the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel (Pro 20:15). Think of His Words and how precious they are! “Neither do I condemn thee; go and sin no more” (John 8:11). And what of the amazing statement of His total sufficiency or everything contained in those simple yet profound words, “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35). What comfort from His words, “I am the Good Shepherd” and “I am the resurrection and the life” have been to so many through the centuries. And were there ever words so precious as “It is finished” (John 19:30)? We can say as others did once, “Never Man spake like this Man!”

Solomon also tells us that wisdom builds a house and fills it with all pleasant and precious riches (Pro 24:4). Think of the blessings He has brought to us, how He has filled our “houses” with precious riches. Individually, and collectively as assemblies, we have been so richly blessed by all the precious things He has provided us. If what He has provided is precious, then He must of Himself by very valuable and precious. The giver is always greater than His gift. As we survey the wealth and wonder of His blessings, always remember the greatness of the giver, the preciousness of the One Who has given us precious things.

He is precious to God. He was “chosen of God and precious” (1 Peter 2:4). Men rejected Him, “disallowed” His claims and refused Him. Yet to God, He was chosen, precious. How could we begin to estimate His value to the heart of His Father? Here was the One Who completely glorified His Father. As the Chief Corner Stone, every purpose of God rests securely upon Him. As the Corner Stone, God is building His eternal program on Him. Everything God has ever planned for humanity and for all created intelligence will be accomplished because of Him.

Satan had called into question the goodness of God in the Garden. He attempted to frustrate all God intended to accomplish. The Chief Corner Stone has made it possible for God to triumph over His foe. He is precious to God. He revealed the falsehood of the one who is a liar from the beginning; He frustrated Satan’s attempt to thwart the plan of God for our blessing.

There is one other wondrous truth that makes Him precious to us. We have been “redeemed with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18). That blood is precious because of Who shed it. It is precious because of what it purchased. It is precious for the innumerable company it has redeemed. It is precious because it has brought each of us into the blessings of an eternal covenant, a covenant whose blessings will never be exceeded or superseded.

He is precious!
