Micah in Mexico one month before he experienced his first episodes of illness
December 20, 1999 – July 17, 2019
Micah Hackett, son of Brent and Angie Hackett, was able to smile as he absorbed the report of a rare form of cancer attacking his spinal cord and cerebral meninges. He was not afraid of facing death. Medical experts in Ontario, Colorado, and Texas had no documented cases to compare Micah’s condition with.
It all happened so quickly – a matter of months. It was December, just before his 19th birthday, when Micah started experiencing episodes of sudden illness requiring immediate emergency care.
Healthy ReadersMost reading this are healthy and well and are wisely making plans for the future. Thank you for honouring the memory of Micah by reading this short post. You aren’t responsible for the value others may get from reading Micah’s story, but how could this story possibly benefit you? Would you allow yourself to step back and reflect on your own life? What assurance do you have that all the essential bases are covered should your life be turned upside-down by a sudden illness?
Is the big matter all looked after? (Big is an understatement.) Is the critical issue of your relationship with God settled and peaceful? How would you characterize your current relationship with God?

As you watch the 6-minute video below, think about Micah’s peaceful acceptance of approaching death and his joyful optimism and confidence as he looked forward to life beyond death. Reflect on his intimacy and obvious love for Jesus Christ. Micah had a ‘relationship’ – not a religion.
Preparation for Eternity
Tragically, people live their lives merely hoping that all will work out blissfully well after death. They prepare for their family, their careers, their vacations, their retirement, their estate and even the disposition of their remains at death – but are totally unprepared to meet God.
No one gets to Heaven unprepared – with their fingers crossed, on a wing-and-a-prayer. Micah was prepared. No one has always been a Christian and no one has always been on the road to Heaven. There must be a starting point.
Essence of Eternal Life
Eternal life and Heaven are not a combo prize awarded by God, based on the accumulation of one’s good works and sincere religious practices. Eternal life and salvation are granted solely on the grounds of grace the moment you consciously place your trust in Jesus Christ.
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— not from works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 Holy Bible
A real Christian enjoys a relationship with Jesus Christ and lives to worship and glorify God. Micah wrote these words in his journal at age 16, as he enjoyed Colossians Chapter 3 in the Holy Bible.
Today, as a Christian, the essence of my life must be worship and nothing else, thus making the goal of my day to glorify God by fearing Him and keeping His commandments, by growing in the knowledge of Him and thereby personal fellowship, and by rejoicing in Him as sufficient for all things as I understand that my life is hidden with Christ in God while glorying solely in the cross and appropriating the impact of it in my life – all by the love of God the Father, the grace of God the Son, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Micah’s journal began with his Life Goal:
Micah possessed eternal life. Regarding eternal life, Jesus said in a prayer to His Father just hours before He was crucified:
And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3 Holy Bible
Eternal Life is not bestowed at one’s baptism. That is never mentioned once in the Bible. Jesus told His disciples:
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (29) My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (30) I and the Father are one. John 10:28-30 Holy Bible
Micah lived a full but very brief life. Read his obituary. Long before his illness, he was focused on things of eternal significance. He loved to study the Bible and share what he was enjoying with others. Micah maintained two websites: FindingTruthWindsor and ChristianTeaching

Do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ? Are you absolutely sure you will be in Heaven? The Bible says you can know for sure you have eternal life.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 1John 5:12-13 Holy Bible.
Excellent write up Peter. “…to be with Christ; which is far better.” Philippians 1:23
Wow, may we too be impacted to live each day for God’s Glory in my prayer.
Thanks so much.wonderful reminder of the very good news of Jesus.
Thank you for posting this. It adds a personal touch for those of us who did not know Micah. “tis better on before”
thank you Jesus for allowing me to know of your Salvation so I may know peace in my life and a good place prepared for me after i die.
Praise God
A friend of mine, and Sarnia Ontario, showed me a small tract of versus that he had received from your ministry. I would like to know the address of the printer. I would be interested in obtaining some for my personal use, and for the use of some men in Bible studies I attend.
Hi Carman, I am not sure what you are referring to. What type of Bible verses do you recall seeing? What was the subject or theme?
I can not express the deep sorrow I feel for you, Brent and you whole family. Grief is so very hard to bear on this earth but I’ve found with Jesus, He takes us day by day and most of the time moment by moment. I praise the Lord that even though I did not have the privilege to meet your son, Micah, I will always keep his testimony in my heart. I’m so thankful that we will see all over our Believing loved ones in heaven one day. But most of all, we will be able to throw ourselves in the arms of Jesus and just say, “I’m home!”
What a impactful testimony of a life well lived for Jesus Christ. Praying God’s overflowing goodness and faithfulness over your life and family during this difficult journey. Be assured that you are not alone we are standing with you in prayer. Let us take heart , we will meet him very soon but while on this earth, let us work the work of the Lord while it’s day time for the night is come when no man can work. Shine your light! Christ Jesus is coming very soon, are you ready? You can be if you confess Him as Lord and believe he died and rose from the dead and he lives in your heart by faith. Invite Him today. Amen!
