As brilliant as you may be, there’s something you cannot get your head wrapped around; neither can I. Some things are simple; other things are complex, but then there’s a sphere where our minds can do nothing but wonder and worship.

For a few minutes, just now, do a mental switch. Put your fretful worries and heavy cares to the side as you read this verse:

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1John 5:12

Are you one of the whoevers?

You may have been thinking of all the things you do not have and all the things you need. As real as those needs may be, stop and think about what you do have! You have the Son. You have eternal life. Who else on your street has what you have? Doesn’t that give you a surge of energy and optimism?

The more we occupy our minds with the Son, the brighter our days will be.

Despite the tears on Mary’s cheeks in the garden, she was occupied with the Son. Jesus was the only One on her mind. She was totally focused on Him. Assuming the voice to be no one other than the gardener, she said: “If you have moved Him to another place, tell me where you laid Him, and I will go and take Him away.” To whom was she referring? She mentioned no name. In Mary’s mind – who else could it possibly be? Wasn’t it obvious to everyone that the love of her heart was Jesus? Wouldn’t He be on everyone’s heart and mind?

When Paul wrote the believers in Colossae, he did a similar thing. He assumed the reader would understand without even mentioning the Son’s name. He tells them that God has delivered them from darkness and has placed them in the Kingdom of His beloved Son.

…the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him… Colossians 1:13-23 ESV

Hebrews 1 tells you more about this Son. He’s the Heir of all things and everything! Through Him the world was created. By Him the universe is held in place and functions smoothly. He is the very radiance or the outshining of the glory of God. He is the exact imprint or image of God – for He is God.

And it doesn’t stop there – this should really cause us to drop to our knees: He is, yes, this Son, is the one who —

…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3

Do you personally have this Son – this One? Who else in your neighbourhood has what you have! It’s not such a bad day after all!

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.

Warmly in Christ
