Don’t even let your mind go there. Get alone with God; open your Bible, confess your doubts and pour out your fears in His Presence. Are you wondering about God these days? Perhaps you are feeling the heat of the battle; maybe you’ve taken a direct hit from the enemy or you are bleeding from the shrapnel or from the twisted, sharp debris from a roadside bomb. Maybe you have been stabbed in the heart. It could be a dense fog has rolled in and you can barely see your hand in front of you. You’re feeling vulnerable. Has the night time of Christian experience fallen around you and your heart is pounding in fear over what may be lurking around the corner?

Have you been wondering if there is something better than what you already have? Someone stronger? Something that will give you more assurance and comfort? Someone who will make your days happier? Think again. Pray again. Read again.

I was reading Isaiah 46 and I couldn’t stop myself from clenching my fist in triumph and thrusting it high into the air and whispering loudly: “Yes!!!” The Lord through the pen of Isaiah questions a wavering Nation of Israel. “Are you wondering if you should be turning to these idols? Give your head a shake. The grass on the other side of the fence may look greener but it’s absolutely an illusion. What you have is a million times better than what those idols can offer. Those idols topple and fall; rather than helping the people in their distress and carrying them, the worshippers literally had to pick up their weak idols and carry them as heavy burdens.” And then I got to this verse and I think you will see the contrast:

Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob,
and all the remnant of the house of Israel,
which are borne by me from the belly,
which are carried from the womb:
And even to your old age I am he;
and even to grey hairs will I carry you:
I have made, and I will bear;
even I will carry, and will deliver you.

To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?
(Isaiah 46:3-5)

Now you are wondering why I just whispered loudly – why didn’t I open my bedroom window and shout out: “Yes!!! He is my God. He carries me. He delivers me. My God is like no one else and can not be compared to any other. He has no equal. He is superior to all. He surpasses every rival and is infinitely greater than all. He is Supreme. And YES – His strong arms pick me up and He carries me!!”

Well, I only whispered because I am visiting someone and I didn’t want to cause a disturbance inside or outside the house!

He is referring to the nation of Israel in Isaiah 46 – but dear believer, He is no less faithful and caring when it comes to you personally. When the one lost sheep was found, where did the Good Shepherd place it? He picked it up and put it upon His strong shoulders and carried it to safety. He doesn’t drop the sheep half way.

When it comes to the government of the nations in Isaiah 9 it says: “…and the government shall be upon His shoulder (singular).” But in Luke 15:5 the found sheep is placed upon His shoulders (plural), just back of the Shepherd’s neck drawn around by BOTH His hands. Got the picture? Two shoulders for one sheep. One shoulder for the nations.

Don’t ever underestimate how much He loves you and how He delights to carry you and be assured, He will deliver you.
