You can miss it, but you can’t lose it. To miss it is to never have it. But to lose it means you once had it.

There are some heart-wrenching stories coming out of the United States just now about homeowners who are losing their homes. Families are losing their homes by the thousands. Foreclosures are rampant. Some have labelled it the ‘foreclosure epidemic’. It is estimated that 1.2 million families across the country are in the process of losing their homes. People can’t make their mortgage payments, and banks can’t wait any longer.

Have you ever lost your home? Do you know what it’s like to empty out your cupboards and fridge, pack your pictures, wall hangings, furniture, clothes and kids’ toys – not because you want to but because you have to? Do you know what it is like to break that kind of news to your kids? Have you ever ‘had’ to do the final sweep of your home and then get in your packed car and drive away for the last time blinking the tears away?

Those who have lost their homes speak of the shame and embarrassment of having to break the news to their family and neighbours. They talk about seeing their lives crumbling all around them and their dreams evaporating as they move in with relatives or into apartments.

Perhaps you can’t relate to the disappointment and embarrassment because you don’t own a home yet. But to lose a home means you once had it.

The reality is we can lose our earthly homes – but there is a home you can NOT lose. You can miss it, but you can’t lose it.

To lose your home on earth is the result of your own inability to make the payments. But anyone who has a home in Heaven is not depending on their own payments or hard work. The price for you to have a home in Heaven was paid in full by Jesus Christ when He died on the Cross. That’s why He was there – so sinners could look forward to an eternal home in Heaven.

Our debt of sin was huge but Christ suffered and died to satisfy all that was outstanding against us on God’s books. (Romans 5:6,8) He paid our sin debt in full to secure us a home in Heaven. (1Peter 2:24 and 3:18) Based on what Christ did for you on the Cross, God now offers you a free home in Heaven as a pure gift for you to either accept or turn down.

On earth, homeowners not only have to worry about how to arrange finances to purchase a home but how to pay for maintaining the home in the long term. That’s not the case with the heavenly home. We don’t pay the purchase price, nor do we pay the long-term costs of maintaining it. Christ paid it all. He secured it with His Blood, and Heaven is a package offer from God that depends completely on the sufficiency of Christ – not our own ability. God offers you eternal life with Him forever – as a free gift. Once you have it, you can’t lose it. Secure for the eternal ages. Incredibly beautiful!

But you can miss it and never have it. A very real danger, and the regrets will be eternal. Read these Bible verses and make your response to God just now.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have (possess) everlasting life (Heaven).”
John 3:16

“The wages of sin is death;
but the gift of God is eternal life (Heaven)
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23

Jesus said:
“I give (it’s a gift) unto them eternal life;
and they shall never (never means never!) perish.”
John 10:28

The forgiveness of sins, eternal life and Heaven are not yours to earn or work for – but to simply accept as a free gift from God offered to people living in their sins.

Look at the simple diagram below for a few minutes. Think about your life. Think about where you would like to be after you die. Think about the possibility of dying unexpectedly. Remember, everyone starts on the same road. Getting on the upward road requires a personal moment when you entered the door by trusting Jesus as your very own personal Saviour. Without the conscious moment, you will miss Heaven. But having that moment of conversion ensures that Heaven is yours forever – never to be lost.
