Spread His Fame Today!

Perhaps you’re not in the ‘mood’ for thanking God today for your many blessings. Things are very difficult right now for you. Your optimism has shriveled up and died. Its parched shell has been picked up by the winds of adversity, and has blown to some remote corner, to be buried beneath the debris of painful circumstances. You feel more like spreading a towel over your face than spreading His fame.

I was reading a beautiful Psalm this morning. Psalm 22. I read it once. I read it twice. I read it three times. Although penned by David, the descriptions of the lonely Sufferer go far beyond anything King David ever experienced. It’s true – there were those who rejected David. He had his enemies. Even some who should have loved him hated him. He was hunted and hounded. He definitely had his dark times in the cave. Are you in a cave today?

But the experiences in Psalm 22 describe a greater humiliation and a deeper loneliness than David’s. This One was treated like a worm – a grub, a maggot. He was scorned and despised by all. He was surrounded by vicious enemies characterized as ferocious dogs, fierce bulls and hungry lions. While He suffered excruciating pain and intense thirst, His enemies gloated over their catch and watched, with delight, as they continued to mock and taunt Him.

Coldly and callously, as He suffered, they rolled the dice for the clothing they had stripped from Him. We read: “They pierced my hands and my feet.” Can you think of anyone you know who had pierced hands and feet? In the midst of that experience there was the cry: “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” Do you know why He was forsaken?

But suddenly the thick darkness of Psalm 22 is gone. There’s a breakthrough. Overwhelming light chases away every shadow.  A sound of triumph and praise erupts. The despair is over. He wasn’t defeated after all. The One who suffered conquered.  Jubilation breaks out.

Instantly the Psalm the catapults the reader ultimately into the Kingdom age when Christ shall reign supreme upon this earth for 1000 glorious years as King of kings and Lord of lords.

But before the Psalm ends we read these words:

Posterity shall serve Him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
they shall come and proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn,
that He has done it.
Psalm 22:30-31

Are you among His offspring? Are you one of His children? If you are, you have the distinct honour and privilege of serving Him. You could serve no greater. Do you feel the dignity of this honour and the weight of this responsibility – that you are to serve Him? Yes, Him!

It says: they shall come and proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn…”  So the good news concerning Christ is passed on from generation to generation by His growing family. And what is that good news? “That He hath done it.” Done what? Christ satisfied the righteous requirements of God regarding sin at Calvary. He finished it!

Dear Child of God – spread His fame to others today. Yes, you are among those who have already come. You are serving Him and mentioning, with delight, His lovely Name to others that He totally finished the work; and then, of course, you tell them about the Free Gift. Yes, today you are discouraged but brighter days are ahead. Lift your eyes to Christ and the incredible future that awaits you. You are eternally and inseparably linked to the Risen Christ!

How will you help spread His fame today? Can you think of something specific you could do today?

Walk carefully and closely with the Lord today.
Warmly in Christ,
